Appearance
Revada
The state
Revada is a fictional desert state in the United States, a day's drive west of Nitroit, and home of the Revada Festival. Mountains, dry lake beds, canyon highways, two-lane roads that run straight for forty miles, and one city bright enough to be seen from thirty miles out. Legal racing lives here because the land is empty, the weather is predictable, and the state licenses it happily.
Not an open world
Revada is deliberately not an open world. There is no free roam, no traffic, no police, and no driving between venues. The festival is a calendar of dates, each held at a specific venue; the player selects the next date, travels to it, and arrives. Getting there is a cutscene. The fourteen-hour drive between Nitroit and Revada is never played: it is a non-interactive sequence, scored by Nitroit's radio fading into static (Radio), and it advances the clock by a day (Time).
The comparison with Nitroit is in Premise.
Venues
The festival moves between ten venues across the state, each hosting on particular dates and suited to particular disciplines by its terrain. Disciplines are defined in Disciplines.
| Venue | What it is | Disciplines |
|---|---|---|
| Sandreach Motorsport Park | Purpose-built permanent circuit with three configurations, grandstands and paddock; the closest thing the festival has to a home. | Grip |
| Vermillion Flats | Dry lake bed. Flat, white, limitless, no walls anywhere. | Drag, Speed, Drift |
| Halloran Basin | Temporary street circuit through Revada's capital, closed for the weekend. Concrete walls, no run-off. | Grip |
| Black Mesa Pass | Mountain highway closed in both directions. Elevation, switchbacks, exposure. | Sprint, Drift |
| Tarrow Canyon Road | Closed canyon two-lane; the narrowest track in the festival. | Sprint, Speed |
| Copper Line | Abandoned mining rail corridor, forty miles arrow-straight. | Speed |
| Anvil Strip | Purpose-built drag strip with timing towers; sanctioned and immaculate. | Drag |
| Rana Dry Wash | Desert wash with banked walls and a natural amphitheatre of spectators on the rim. | Drift |
| Cold Springs Airfield | Decommissioned airbase: runways, taxiways, hangars, cones. | Drag, Grip, Drift, Sprint |
| Mirror Salt | Salt flat at the northern edge of the state. Nothing in any direction. Used once a season. | Speed |
Weather and time of day are fixed per date. The calendar says where and when, and the player does not choose: an event at Black Mesa Pass in late afternoon is in late afternoon for everybody, every playthrough.
The Circuit Final is always at Sandreach, in its long configuration (Rank and championship). It is the only permanent circuit in the state, the only venue with a full grandstand, and the only place in Revada that looks like the place where John Spaid died.
